A temple guarded by Vegetarian Crocodile

Ananthapura Lake Temple is the only temple in Kerala where AnanthaPadmanabha A gesture of Vishnu in which he is sleeping on his serpent Shesha. This position of his is prayed to and meditated upon in search of peace and spiritual enlightenment.settled down as per beliefs. Ananthapura Lake Temple is built in Sanctum which measures about 2 acres (302 feet square) Ananthapura Temple (Lord VishnuVishnuVishnu
Vishnu is one of the Supreme Gods of Hindus and is a part of Hindu Trinity,..
) is a Hindu temple which is guarded by a vegetarian crocodile.

A fish friendly crocodile lives in this temple and accepts food by temple management people only. This divine crocodile is named Babia, the local guard, and messenger of the temple. The devotees after worshiping and presenting the bhog to Lord Ananthapadmanabha, give the parsad for Babia. This parsad is given to him at noon in a manner of feeding elephants, putting the food in the mouth of the crocodile. The food is gruel kind, made from jiggery and rice. Management people believe that Babia is over 60 years old. And since ages people of the temple have seen only one crocodile appearing after the demise of one to guard the temple.

As per the legend goes, Lord KrishnaKrishnaKrishna
It is described that there are three aspects of the Supreme that must...
was at the temple to test the devotion of the devotee of Lord Krishna. The Saint, Sree Vilvamangalathu Swami after being disturbed by a kid (disguise of Lord Krishna) pushed the kid and the kid disappeared. This shock of sudden disappearance made the saint realize his mistake.

A crocodile ever since is believed to be the guard of the temple, believed by locals as the avatar of Lord Krishna. The crack on the ground through which Lord Krishna had disappeared can still be seen there.
