AhoiAshtami - Celebration of the wonderful bond of mother and child

Motherhood is the most beautiful and exclusive experience for a woman on this earth. The joy of giving birth and seeing the part of self-growing in front of herself is indescribable experience and can only be felt by a mother. The mother-child relationship is such relationship that nobody would have ever explained in words. There is a special bond with mother, and nothing can replace or substitute the motherly love in this world. This is the only relationship that is naturally filled with deep love, affection, and care. Motherhood signifies sacrifice, emotions, patience, care, affection and love. These are the feminine or motherly qualities that form the foundation of a strong individual. In our society, males are not encouraged to be emotional and caring, because these qualities are considered as feminine qualities. However, each one of us, irrespective of gender, deep down has a craving to develop these qualities because it brings peace, harmony and satisfaction to self.

We all must strive to develop these qualities as an important part of our personal development journey because we try to learn to love others selflessly; we cannot become strong individuals. To make this world a nurturing place for all, there is a requirement of personal development by embracing the motherly qualities in you, which already exist in you, there is just a need to uncover them.

AhoiAshtami is commemorated mainly in the northern part of India by some selected communities. Many people are not aware of this festival. It is celebrated exactly after four days of KarvaChauth celebrations.

On this fast, Mothers observe fast for a day for their children and do not eat anything but can drink water. Later in the evening, the mother told a traditional story associated with this festival to all her children. She prays for the health, well-being and longevity of the life of her children and then offer water and homemade sweets to the stars. After worshipping stars, she breaks her fast. During prayers, there is an interesting and fun filled ritual, where she throws the home made sweets and invites all her children to compete and ask them to grab the maximum. Children feel involved and enjoy this play during Puja. It is a prayer ritual performed to make offerings, honoring, evoking or worshipping gods. The ceremony can also be performed to pay homage to the beloved ones who are dead

Charanamrit Team wishes you the great bond of love, care, and affection with your mother or anybody whom you feel motherly. May you receive the grace and love of your mother on the awesome occasion of ‘AhoiAstami’.
