According to Hindu Mythology, there were endless wars between Gods(Devas) and Demon (Asuras). To stop the endless fights, both parties came to a conclusion that they instead of fighting they should come together and stir round the milky ocean. The spills should be divided equally. The efforts started and sea yielded many valuable elements, jewelry, and treasures etc. which were equally divided into both Gods and Demons. Then came a deadly poison (Halahala) It was one of the assests of SamudraManthan, a poison that could end the universe but was consumed by Lord Shiva to save the universe from destruction, the poison was so deadly it became a danger for entire creation which was swallowed by Lord Mahadev.

At the end, much-desired elixir came. To save this Amrit The term ‘Amrit’ is used for the water or nectar of immortality. The word was used in Rigveda for the nectar which is drunk by Gods to gain immortality. It was one of the outcomes of samudra manthan. There was a curse on gods by Durvasa because of which they started becoming mortal and then they needed this drink for immortality. Later on the water which is given as prasadam to devotees in the temples is also called Amrit as it is believed to be blessed by Gods. It is the holy water which is sweet-tasting. It is consumed in the name of the God. from the hand of Demons, Lord VishnuVishnuVishnu
Vishnu is one of the Supreme Gods of Hindus and is a part of Hindu Trinity,..
has applied a trick for ensured only for Gods. For this, to search for Elixir continued for 12 days and 12 nights. 1 day for the divine beings was equal to 12 human years.

For the process of churn, a few drops fell four places on the earth and now at these four places, the Kumbh Mela is conducted. Every 12 year a holy gathering takes place to attain blessings in the places sanctified by elixir. Ardha Kumbh means half so this congregation happens every 6 years.
