    The Hindu Vrat Vrat is the Hindi term of fast . It is a process in which devotees do not consume food or/and water on the days dedicated to the Gods they believe in, to show their dedication and to gain health and prosperity‘Govatsa Dwadashi’ which is also known as ‘Nandini Vrat’, is associated with the prayer of Cow and Calf.     Nandi is one of the most iconic and famous characters of Hindu mythology. He is the vehicle of Shiva and also the gatekeeper of the abode of Shiva and Parvati. 
    Vrat is celebrated one day before the Hindu festival “Dhanteras”. In the year 2016, the Govatsa Dwadashi Vrat is on 26 October, Wednesday. In the Indian State Maharashtra, Govatsa Dwadashi is also known as “Vasu Varas” and is considered as the first day of Diwali.
     
    Fasting Procedure
     
    The devotees observing fast, wake up early in the morning. They take single day meal, avoiding milk products. The cow is given a bath along with its calf and inwrought with necklace of flowers. The devotees break their fast on the next day after sunup.
