One of the most famous Tamil festivals is Karthikai Deepam, or Karthikai vilakkidu is a Hindu Festival. As per Tamil calendar, it falls on the full moon day in the month of Karttikai (mid-November to mid-December), It is the time when the moon is in line with the six-star constellation called Karthigai.

Another version of the saga goes as Shiva has six primary faces (Tatpurusam, ghoram, Sadyojatam, Vamadevam, Eesanam, Adhomukam) and from the third eye of each of six faces, he created six forms that made into six children and each of them brought up by the six fairies and later merged into one body by his mother, ParvatiParvati
After the death of Shiva's first love Sati, Shiva.... After merging, he formed into a six faced (Arumugam) and twelve handed god. The Lord Murugan is worshiped with six different names. As the six fairies helped in growing the six children, Shiva blessed immortality to the six fairies as ever living stars on the sky. Any worship performed to this six stars is equal to worshiping Karthikeyan himself.
How People celebrate Karthikai Deepam?
They are worshiped by lighting up with rows of oil lamps (Deepam) in the evening of the festival day around the houses, temples and workplaces.
Karthikai Deepam is also known as Kartikeya, or Morgan’s birthday. There is believe that light can keep away bad things from life and welcome the good and holy things of life. Many people burn homemade Charcoal based hand rotating cracker.
All the people celebrate this festival with great fervor and gaiety. They wear new clothes and rejoice with happiness. They exchange gifts and try to meet all their relatives during the festival.
