Types Of Navratri

Navratri is the auspicious time time when the Goddess Durga is worshiped. Durga is known as the remover of obstacles in the life. According to Hindu mythology, it is the energy of Durga, which carries the continuous cycle of creation, perseverance and destruction of the universe. During Navratri, you can also worship Goddess Durga, and her nine incarnations to please her and seek blessings from her.

In the year, Navratri comes five times a year. They are as follows:-

•    Vasanta Navaratri
•    Ashadha Namarari
•    Sharada Navaratri
•    Paush Navaratri
•    Magha Navaratri
 

Vasanta Navaratri

Vasant Navratri is observed in the Hindu month of Chaitra that falls in the month of March – April. It is believed that Goddess Durga was originally worshipped (Durga Puja) in the Chaitra month and was also referred as Basanti Puja. It was Lord Ram who changed the period of Durga Puja.

Vasanta Navaratri is also known as Spring Navratri, Chaitra Navratras or Basant Navratri. As this Navratra coincides with Ram Navami, it also referred as Ram Navratri.
  
In 2015, Vasant Navratri begins on 21st March and end on the 29th March. 

Sharada Navaratri


Sharada Navaratri is commemorated in the Hindu month Aswayuja/Asvina that falls in the month of October-November.

It is celebrated in West Bengal Navratri as Durga Puja It is a prayer ritual performed to make offerings, honoring, evoking or worshipping gods. The ceremony can also be performed to pay homage to the beloved ones who are deadfor three days are famously known as Durga Saptami, Durga Ashtami and Durga Navami.

Sharada Navaratri is also known as Winter Navratri

In 2015, Sharada Navratri begins on 13th October and end on 21st October.

Rest following three Navratris are Secret Navratri or Gupt Navratri where prayers are performed secretly without any grand celebrations. It is basically a sacred time to invoke Goddess Durga blessing with Tantric practices.   

Ashadha Navaratri is commemorated in the Hindu month Asadh that falls in the month of July- August.

In 2015, Ashadha Navratri begins on 17th July and end on 26th July.

Paush Navaratri is commemorated in the Hindu month Paush that falls in the month of December–January.

Paush Navaratri begins on December 29, 2014 and was celebrated till January 05, 2015.

Magha Navaratri is celebrated in the Hindu month Magha that falls in the month of January–February.

Magha Navaratri begins on 21st January, 2015 and was celebrated till 29th January 2015.
