Bali Yatra 2016 Odisha
Bali Yatra the name suggests the journey to Bali. Especially, the festival Bali Yatra is celebrated in the Indian state Orissa. It falls on the full moon day in the month of Kartik which is considered as most auspicious month according to Hindu calendar and coincides with English months of October – November.
According to rituals, Bali Yatra symbolizes the culmination of all religious festivals held in the month of Kartik. In this Yatra, the statues of Kartikeshwar are worshipped and immersed in the Mahanadi River water, near Shiva temple. At the end of Kartik month, the fair is organized on the banks of Mahanadi River in the fort area of Cuttack city.
As per Hindu religion, a tribute to ancient sailors of the region people float artificial boats made of paper, cork, colored paper and banana tree barks in the river and water tanks. Another tradition is there of lighting small lamps in the hollow of the boat called Boita Bandana. Along with the traditional feelings, it alos provides an amazing pageant to the visitors as the sight of numerous boats lit with lamps floating in the river.
According to ancient stories, the day of Kartik Purnima was considered very auspicious of Orissa (Odisha) to business on a journey to distant lands like the islands of Bali, Java, Sumatra, Borneo and Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
Bali Yatra Festival has gained huge importance as tourists across the country gather here during the festival to witness the culture of Orissa. The Government of Orissa arranges various tours and packages for tourists during the festival occasion. Orissa is an Indian state which is famous for its culture and vibrancy that has been illuminated during this fest.
During the Bali Yatra, a grand fair is organized that shows a huge variety of goods and accessories for buying and selling. Besides rituals and fair, there are number of arrangements by the Orissa Government.
