Rig Veda Upakarma is a significant days for Brahmins It is one of the caste of Hindus. They are known for their knowledge of ancient, sacred scriptureson which they change their sacred thread known as Yagnopaveetham which they wear around their body. This thread is gifted in a ritual called Upanayana. It is a ceremony in which a student is accepted by his teacher by making him wear a sacred thread, signifying his entry into the formal education. The ceremony includes the child, his family members and relatives and his teacher. Along with the procedure of changing of thread, the students are taught the correct way of recitation while performing Yajnas. They are the sacred rituals to invoke deities using fire. The purpose of performing such rituals are to gain boons, including wealth, health and power. The ritual is performed by priests or learned Brahmins
The rituals take place once in the year when the students change their spoiled and impure thread and accept a new one. They first take a dip in holy waters and then they make offering to priests whom they believe composed the Vedic hymns. They also make an offering to their ancestors to whom they owe their birth and their spiritual knowledge. Numerous mantras are chanted after taking a little water in right palm and swallowing it. The most important one is- Achyutaya Namah, Anantaya Namah, Govindaya Namaha. It means that the student wants to gain atonement for all the past sins that he has committed. He wants to gain blessings in order to perform the rituals. He promises to perform his duties with good conduct while wearing the sacred thread.
