The day is celebrated as his birth anniversary and is also known as Goswami Tulsidas Jayanti.

Tulsidas was a renowned poet. Though he gained an immense knowledge, he wanted to benefit the masses. Not many people in that age were educated therefore he took it upon himself to awaken the souls of humans and give them Ramayana in vernacular language. He wrote his songs and hymns also in the language of the common man so that they could gain some enlightenment. He lived in the Iron Age, also known as Kala Yuga, when morality, knowledge and spirituality were depleting, thus he felt the need of spreading his own devotion towards RamaRama

Tulsidas as a Teacher
 
In many schools, students pay respect and regards to their teacher because as Tulsidas taught humanity the way of redeeming themselves and attaining joy and peace in the devotion of Rama, similarly all teachers show a way of reaching God and connecting with the Supreme Being. Couplets written by Tulsidas are sung on this day and are made a part of the morning assembly. The basic theme of his couplets were to mediate on the name of Rama and live a healthy and positive life. One of the most common couplet is

It means that worrying unnecessarily reduces wisdom, beauty and intelligence. Worrying is very unlucky like death. Sleep without worrying and leave everything to Rama because something which cannot happen, won’t happen and something that is bound to happen will happen in any way.
