Gita Jayanti is a Hindu festival that marks the birth of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the sacred text of the Hindus. It is described that there are three aspects of the Supreme that must...
whose philosophical teachings are supposed to comprise the Bhagavad Gita It is a Hindu scripture of 700 verse, teaching the concept of Dharma (righteousness)in its entirety. And as such the festival is celebrated with great ardor and fervor not only in India but the whole world.

Legend

According to the legends stated in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, once there was a bitter rivalry between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. The rivalry soon resulted into an inevitable war that came to be known as the great war of Kurukshetra. It is one of the many cities of Haryana which has a huge historical significance. The fight between Kauravas and Pandavas, depicted in Mahabharata, was fought on the grounds of Kurukshetra. Bhagavad Gita was also preached here by Krishna to Arjuna. The land is also known as Dhamakshetra. On the day of the Great War, the opposing armies gathered together to fight each other. Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, was a great friend and devotee of Krishna and asked him to be his charioteer and guide in the battle. He told Krishna to take him to the middle of the battlefield in order to have a proper view of the opponents. When Krishna took him to the centre of the battlefield, all of a sudden Arjuna refused to fight against the Kauravas They were the descendants of Kuru. Duryodhana was considered the most important Kaurava. They were hundred in number and had only one sister named Dushala. They were parented by Gandhari and Dhritarashtra. They fought against the Pandavas in the war of Mahabharata. They also didn’t want the Pandavas to rule and thus also sent them into exile. and put down his weapons. When Krishna, who was his charioteer and counselor during the battle, asked him why he did that Arjuna replied that he was seeing his great uncle, teacher and many relatives in the opposition and, therefore, it was really hard for him to fight and draw his weapons against them due to the emotional bonds. On this

Krishna provided Arjuna with one of the most important teachings of Bhagavad Gita and told him that it was his duty to observe and perform his responsibilities. He told Arjuna that if he would not fight against his enemies, then they will definitely slay down his brothers. As such it is one’s ultimate responsibility to perform his duty above all else. The teachings inspired Arjuna so much that that it ultimately led to the victory of Pandavas in the battle. It is believed that such powerful teachings of the sacred Bhagavad Gita were given by Krishna to Arjuna on the day of Gita Jayanti.
