Goddess Kalratri (Kali) is represented with perhaps most furious features amongst all the world's deities. She is depicted with unlocked hairs, three eyes, and four arms. In one hand she was carrying the sword and the head of a demon in another, while remaining two are in the mudras of “giving” and “protecting” her worshippers. KaliKaliKali

Legend

Kali is considered as an incarnation of Parvati. She assumed this form to defeat the demon Raktabija. The meaning of Raktabija is “the seed of blood." The gods could not kill the demon Raktabija because he had received a boon from BrahmaBrahmaBrahma
According to Hinduism, the whole creation is the work of Trimurti (the Hindu Trinity)...
that each time a drop of his blood touched the ground, one another and more powerful Raktabija stand there. Within few minutes, the entire battlefield covered with numerous Raktabija clones. The gods turned to ShivaShivaShiva

She is the Goddess of time, power, change and destruction and is majorly worshipped in South India, Bengal and Assamand set out to do battle with Raktabija. Kali attacked Raktabija, and when blood oozes from his body, she spread her tongue to cover the entire battlefield to prevent even a single drop of Raktabija's blood from falling on the ground. She prevented Raktabija from reproducing himself, and thus able to slay the demon. When Kali Killed Raktabija, She ran across the cosmos and started killing anyone who dared to cross her path. She decorated herself with the garland of heads, limbs and entrails of her victims.  As a result, there was a misbalance in the universe.  As a last resort, they had to awaken Shiva from his meditation. Shiva understood the situation and to pacify her, he threw himself under her feet. Kali was shocked on realizing that she was stepping on Shiva and stuck out her tongue in astonishment. Thus, the common image of Kali shows her with standing with one foot on Shiva's chest along with her enormous tongue stuck out.
