About 2014 Konark Festival

The Konark sun temple is situated in the small town of Konark situated in district Puri, Odisha in India near the shores of the Bay of Bengal. According to historical references, it was built by King Narasimhadeva I of Eastern GangaGangaGanga
According to Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu in one of....
Dynasty around 1250.

According to local folk tale, Narasimhadeva I had hired a chief architect called Bisu Maharana to build the temple. He had completed temple in twelve years, a workforce of twelve thousand almost finished the construction. But,  unfortunately they failed to mount the crown stone. The King Narasimhadeva I ordered the temple to be finished in three days or the craftsmen would be put to death. At that time, Bisu Maharana's twelve year old son, Dharmapada arrived at the temple site.

Dharmapada successfully proposed a solution to mount the crown stone. But, the craftsmen were still in doubts that the king would feel bad that a boy of just twelve years succeeded where his best craftsmen failed. Bisu asked his son leapt into the water to save his father and other craftsmen who were working under him.

Twelve hundred craftsmen had taken around 12 long years to erect their masterpiece.  This temple depicts the kings, queens, generals, foot soldiers, sages, priests, elephants, horses, courtiers and courtesans depicted on the walls and the panels with finesse open a window to the nostalgic times of medieval Odisha.

It has been built in the shape of a gigantic chariot that is drawn with the help of twelve gigantic carved stone wheels and seven galloping horses. This temple was so carefully designed that  the first rays of sun strike the entrance on the east side. Unfortunately, one of the seven horses is not seen today.

Major part of the Konark temple now in ruins. According to Historians, General of Bengal Sultan Sulaiman Khan Karrani invaded Odisha. He desanctified the Konark temple and various other temples of Orrisa. According to some accounts Kalapahad was formerly a Hindu Kayastha  officer, however, he had converted to Islam.

The temple is by declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. Indian Government included its name in seven wonders of India.
