One of the most famous and 14 days long festivals in Goa called as Shigmo festival also known as Shigmotsav starting from 24th March to 7April, 2016. Shigmo festival is also known as Shishirotsav.
What is Shigmo festival ?
The Shigmo Festival in Goa is a colorful festival celebrated in the month of Phalguna as per Saka Calendar. During this festival, famous temple Yatras are held. Processions are carried out at temples by throwing Gulal (a color powder) and dancing with God and Goddess umbrellas and Dindis. This festival celebration is organized in different cities to attract tourists. Parade are carried out in cities with traditional cultural Goan dances and modern floats. People are honored for the best performance in the procession and best float decorators.
Local people celebrated in the villages, the "Shigmotsav" or Shigmo festival, a grand five-day festival of colors, is also considered as the spring festival of Goa. Its celebrations begin with the Holi, the festival of colors celebrated across the country on Thursday.
History of Shigmo Festival
Shigmo Festival was celebrated as Phalgun biggest festival which praised the homecoming of the warriors who had left their homes and families at the end of Dusshera to fight the invaders. Traditional folk dances and act of historical scenes is the major highlight of this parade.

By Air: The nearest airport is Goa International airport and is located at Dabolim, 30 km away from Panjim. Multiple domestic airlines provide daily flights from major cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ahmedabad.
By Train: There are many railway stations in Goa, most of the people usually get down at Madgaon or Vasco-da-Gama in South Goa and Thivim in North Goa railway station.
