Birth and death
Madhvacharya was born in 1238 on Vijayadashmi in Udupi and it is believed that before his birth, a disabled person with no legs, magically climbed on a flag post and announced the arrival of Vayu dev to strengthen the philosophies of Dharma. He was a quick learner and learnt all the alphabets in a single day. He had the curiosity of learning a new thing every day. His followers do not believe in his death but only in his departure to his original abode, heaven.
Sri Madhvacharya Jayanti is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the great philosopher. It is observed on the ninth day of the waxing phase of the moon in the month of Ashwin, which corresponds to September-October, according to the Gregorian calendar.
On this day, his philosophies of Dvaita Vedanta are preached, according to which, there is no unification in between the universe and the individual souls. Rather they all are dependent on Vishnu, who is a Supreme Being, living in his abode Vaikunta with his consort, LakshmiLakshmi
