Hindu calendar actually based on the waxing and the waning phase of the moon. During the waxing phase, the moon’s light part increases and on the completion of fifteen days it attained the full moon. In the waning phase, moon’s lighted part shrinks and on completion of fifteen days attains New Moon. In both phases, the eleventh day is called Ekadashi. However, each Ekadashi is known by different names.
Vijaya Ekadashi is one of the important Ekadashi that is commenserated in the Hindu Month Phalguna(twelfth lunar month).
How People Celebrate Vijaya Ekadashi?
People generally keep fast on this day. They eat pure vegetarian food the night before Ekadashi. People keep fast for 24 hours means they will break their fast on the next day. During the night of Ekadashi, they wake up for the whole night (Jagaran), and they worship Lord Vishnu. They place the idol of the VishnuVishnu
Vishnu is one of the Supreme Gods of Hindus and is a part of Hindu Trinity,.. on the seven grains, and they are as follows:
Wheat (Gehun), Rice (Chawal), Whole Green Gram (Moong), Red Lentil (Masoor), Barley (Jau), chickpea (Channa) and Black Gram (Urad).
After that light an earthen lamp and incense sticks in front of the deity. After prayers, Devotees offer fruits, flowers, Charanamrit and Prasad It is the sacred food that is distributed after an auspicious event or day after offering it to the Godsto the deity to seek his blessings and later distribute to the devotees gathered there for the prayer. People break their fast on the next day, i.e. Dwadashi (twelfth day) with donating the earthen pot full of seven whole grains.
Significance Of Vijaya Ekadashi
There is a belief that the one who keep fast on this day can increase its good fortune and ward off his bad fortune. He/she can overcome all the obstacles in his/her life and get rid of all the difficulties in their life.
According to Hindu scriptures, one who donates gold, land, cow would be bestowed with blessings of the Vishnu.
