Kuldhara Village - A haunted place in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

Kuldhara village lies about 15 km from Jaisalmer city in Western Rajasthan. Kuldhara village was established in 1291 by the Paliwal Brahmins; they were known to be very prosperous due to their ability to grow bumper crops in the desert. These Brahmins It is one of the caste of Hindus. They are known for their knowledge of ancient, sacred scriptureswere also known for their business skills and agricultural knowledge. Kuldhara was also among the largest of 84 villages that this community was spread in. 

At this time, Maharaja of Jaisalmer was the only titular ruler, the real power lies in the hand of the Prime Minister or Diwan. Once the Diwan saw the beautiful young daughter of the village chief (head of Kuldhara), he desperately wanted to marry this girl of the chief. Some also believed that this Diwan belonged to a lower caste, and the village chief was a Brahmin, The conventional Hindu caste system divided society into four sects and Brahmin was known as the learned class who gained the knowledge of sacred texts written on Hinduism and that's the reason Chief refused the marriage proposals of Diwan. Diwan gave a deadline of 24 hours to the chief and told if they did not agree he will forcefully marry his daughter. This made the chief very angry, and all the chiefs of 84 villages gathered for a meeting concerning the Diwans marriage proposal. For their pride and honour, villagers decided to leave the village in the night. After that night, no one knows where these villagers of 84 villages vanished. Some also believed they settled near Jodhpur city. But no one has seen them shifting or leaving the village. It is believed that villagers cast a curse over the village as they departed that would bring death to anyone who tried to inhabit this land. It is said that people who tried attempted to stay at this place overnight have faced paranormal activities, and no one can stay peacefully. 
Now, this place is a protected monument and it is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Now many tourists visit this place from all over the world. Many visitors felt some kind of sadness here mainly due to its depressing story. While visiting Jaisalmer, going about the village of Kuldhara will be a good option.
