Children of both the daughters were supernatural and were constantly fighting for power. Diti gave birth to Datiyas. They were a race of demons and were always jealous of their half-brothers Devas (deities) who were the sons of Aditi and believed in following the path of righteousness.
Diti’s Sons- Maruts
Diti lost many of her sons because of Indra, the leader of Deities. She was eager to take revenge on him and wanted a powerful son who could kill him. Diti is also known as the Goddess of revenge and retribution.
Kashyapa was in an unmatchable condition as it meant losing his sons from both the sides. Considering Diti’s determination, he impregnated her but asked her to carry the child for 100 years. Only after completing hundred years in her womb, a son would be born who will be all mighty and possess power to destroy Indra. Also she had to keep her body and mind pure. No destructive or immoral thought should occur as it will weaken the child in her womb. She also had to follow a set of rules like washing her feet before going to bed and only then her wish of having a powerful boy will be fulfilled.
Indra was worried but did not have a solution to save his doomed fate. One night, Diti forgot to perform her daily routine and went to bed without washing her feet. Indra saw this as his only opportunity and he sent a thunder bolt which destroyed the embryo in Diti’s womb and divided it into seven pieces. With the intervention of Lord ShivaShiva

Diti always had a thirst for power. She took immoral means to keep the power of her sons, demons, at its peak. She disliked both Aditi and her sons but soon she realized her mistakes and wanted to attain penance. Kashyapa consoled her by saying some of her sons will be killed by Lord VishnuVishnu
