    Purana, the water of Goddess Narmada is held effective against snakebite. Narmada river is one of the most sacred of the seven holy rivers of India. The river is originated a tiny reservoir known as the Narmada Kund situated on the Amarkantak Hills. Also called as Rewa. The river is well mentioned in Hindu Puranas, Ramayana, Mahabharat and Shatapatha Brahmana.
     
    The  puranic name of Amarkantak was Riksh Parvat. About 6,000 years ago the Suryavanshi Samrat Mandhata established a town in the Riksh Parvat valley and called Mandhata. The queen of Purukutsa apparently gave the name Narmada to the river. The Narmada rises in the Amarkantak Hills of Madhya Pradesh and flows between the Satpura and Vindhya ranges before draining into the Arabian Sea. It is the 5th largest river in the Indian sub-continent and flows completely within India just as the Ganges and the Godavari.
