Shukra is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘white’ or ‘bright’, and that is the complexion of this deity. Who is the personification of planet Venus. He governs Fridays and people with Taurus and Libra as their sun signs. He is related with love, romance, sexuality and artistic talents. Shukra also represents material life and wealth. He indicates happiness, beauty, comfort and passion. Thus also known as planet of luxuries. Shukra is the brightest celestial object and is called the jewel of the sky or the planet of beauty.

Brahma created his first son Prajapati to assist him in his work of creation of the universe..... (father of Brihaspati). During the lessons, Shukra noticed that the sage favored his son too much thus he left his schooling and decided to attain the art of life by himself.

In VAMANA Avatar, Vishnu incarnates himself as a dwarf priest... was no other than Vishnu himself. Thus, he asked Bali not to agree to his terms but Bali was a man of his words. Shukra shrank himself and sat in the spout in the pot so that the water could not be used to seal the promise. Vamana, in the effort of cleaning the spout, pierced the eye of Shukra and took the three worlds back.
Suiting his name, Shukra is white in complexion and is four armed. He holds a stick in one hand and a rosary in another. His other two hands are either holding a bow and arrow and lotus or are in a blessing giving posture. He also rests on a lotus. At times, he is depicted riding a camel, a horse or a crocodile.
He had two consorts named Sukirthi and Urjaswathi. He is associated with the color white and yellow. His element, metal, gemstone and direction is water, silver, diamond and South-East respectively. The spring season and the food, kidney beans are related with him.
If Venus is placed right in one’s horoscope, then he can attain wealth, love and pleasure from his life. He can also gain creative, artistic skills like dancing, singing, painting, etc. But if not, then one can suffer from many physical ailments. He can also be lustful thus bringing a bad name to himself. To rectify these problems, one should fast on Fridays and wear only white or light blue colored clothes as it pleases Shukra. Perform charity and give alms and food to the poor like maize, sugar, curd and rice. One can also chant the Mantra A group of sacred words chanted in order to gain something, be it materialistic pleasures or peaceful mind(sacred words) ‘Om dram dreem droum sah shukraya namah’, 108 times a day.
