The name Vishnu means one who is all pervading and one who enters everywhere. This signifies that he is present everywhere and resides in everything, animate or inanimate. He is not limited by space, time and substance. People who worship Vishnu and his incarnations are known as Vaishnavas. Vishnu is known by thousand names that are collectively known as Vishnu Sahasranama The thousand names of Vishnubut the most common ones are Hari It is another name of Lord Vishnu.(the Lord of nature), Narayana (the refuge of everyone), KrishnaKrishna
It is described that there are three aspects of the Supreme that must... (one who has dark complexion), Jagannatha (Lord of the Universe), Lakshmipati (consort of Goddess Lakshmi), Ananta (the endless Lord) etc.
The two sacred texts dedicated to Vishnu are Bhagavata Purana and Vishnu Purana. The texts contain legends related to Vishnu and explain that he is the Supreme Lord. There are eight major divine glories that are attributed to him. He is omniscient, sovereign, all-powerful, full of vigor, splendid, generous, self-sufficient and compassionate. Whenever truth, peace and righteousness is under threat, Vishnu takes up a new form and come on earth to restore order.

Vishnu has a dark complexion. His skin looks pale blue in color, and he is a four-armed God. He holds a conch in one which is used to spread the sound of ‘Om’, the primordial sound of the universe. He holds a discus (chakra) in another which represents the continuation of time and a weapon used by Vishnu numerous times to kill evil beings. He holds a lotus as a symbol of purity, knowledge and his glorious existence and finally he holds a mace that is used to punish the people who bring in chaos and indiscipline. The four arms also stands for the quest of knowledge, family life, retreat into the forest and renunciation (the four stages of life). They signify the four aims of life which are duty, material goods, pleasure and liberation. The four Vedas Four ancient texts constituting the oldest layer of Sanskrit literature and the oldest scriptures of Hinduism(sacred scriptures on Hinduism) and the four castes (Hinduism divides humans into four categories according to their work and birth) are also depicted by his four arms.

He is also seen in harmony with Shiva, who is also known as Hara, and together they are called Harihara, He is the representation of Vishnu and Shiva fused together. He is considered as the supreme God by Vaishnavites and Shaivities. He presents the principal of oneness of all existence. They both are considered as one and same entity. They are a single entity of the Brahman. It is presented as an image or idol split down in half. One side represents Shiva with matted hair, pale skin with ash smeared forehead whereas the other half represents Vishnu with a half crown on his head and some jewelry. He is black-skinned and holiness is visible on his face.
