Omkareshwarai Namah! One of the 12 foremost holy shrines of Shivlingas is located at Malwa (on the banks of the river Narmada) in Madhya Pradesh, India. Here, the one of the supreme holy pilgrimage places is devoted to Lord Shiva (Mamleshwara). Indeed, the sole junction as an appearance of Lord Shiva comes visible as a tale of Spiritual place, millions of devotees from all over the country visit the prehistoric divine temple every year. Moreover, there are two most significant holy temples are situated here – Omkareshwar (dedicated to Lord of Omkara) and Amareshwar (dedicated to Lord of Immortals).
 
History: However, according to the mythology, some time ago Narada Muni (son of Lord Brahma) visited Vindhya Parvat and told about the greatness of Meru Parvat to Vindhya. Owing to this, envious Vindhya decided to be bigger than mount Meru and practiced severe penance and worshipped Parthivarchana along with Lord Omkareshwar for nearly six months. Accordingly, Lord Shiva was pleased and blessed him. On the postulation of all the idols, Lord Shiva made two divisions of the lingams – one half is called Mamleshwara or Amreshwara and the other Omkareshwara.
 
Alternatively, according to the another legend, it is believed that once upon a time the Lord of Heaven (Indra) was worried as a consequence of the Demons overwhelmed the Gods and have ruined mayhem in three worlds i.e. Trilokas. In an attempt to make powerful the Gods again, Lord Shiva came out in the form of Linga Omkar on the banks of holy river Narmada. The Gods have worshipped the Omkara and became influential once again to destroy the demons.
 
Festivals and Fairs: Moreover, here come on the organized series of acts! The most significant holy festivals and fairs at Omkareshwar temple are – “Maha Shivratri” (celebrated in the month of February-March every year), “Shravan Mahotsava” (celebrated in the holy month of Shravan), “Pradosh” (on 13th day of Ashwin vad and Karthik sud) and “Nag Panchmi” (on 5th day of the Karthik sud).
 
Besides, a grand fair -“Maha Shivratri fair” is held near the temple with the other significant rituals every year.
 
Other significant adjacent places:  Here, several other momentous places and temples are situated near the Omkareshwar temple – Kajal Rani Cave (9-10kms form Omkareshwar), 24 Avatars (a group of Jain and Hindu temples), Sri omkar Mandhata (stands on a 1 mile long), Satmatrika temple (a group of ancient temples, 6-7kms form Omkareshwar) and Siddhanath temple (a classic visiting place of Brahminic architecture).
 
Temple timings: The holy temple opens at 6.00am and closes at 10.00pm.
 
First Aarti: Held at 7.00am
Second Aarti: Held at 7.00pm
 
How to reach:
 
By Air: Nearest airport is Indore (77kms from Omkareshwar) and Ujjain (135kms), directly connected to Bhopal, Gwalior, Delhi and Mumbai.
 
By Train: Nearest railhead is located on the Ratlam-Khandwa road (12kms from Omkareshwar), Indore railway station (77kms), directly connected to Mumbai and Delhi.
 
By Road: Omkareshwar is well connected to Omkareshwar road (12kms), Indore (77kms), Khandwa (61kms) and Ujjain (133kms with regular bus services).
