Jai Someshwara Mahadev! One of the 12 major holy shrines of Shivlingas is located at Prabhas Patan (on the south coast of Saurashtra) in Gujarat, India, dedicated to Someshwara Mahadev (Lord of all Gods). Besides, the prime domicile of Omkara has been destroyed and re-built six times.

Alternatively, the Somnath Shiva temple (built in gold) is also known as Prabhas Pattan or Somnath Pattan and Deo Pattan, worshipped by a large number of Hindu devotees.

History: However, according to the legends, it is believed that the moon God – Som or Chandra was married to 27 daughters of King Daksh Prajapati, although he favored only his one queen ‘Rohini’ then infuriated King Prajapati bothers Moon to disappear. In order to recover his glow, he prayed to Lord Shiva with his wife Rohini at Prabhas. Later on Moon was blessed by Somnath to arise and shine in the bright half; consequently, the holy place has become famous as Somnath or Prabhas Pattan.

In 724 CE, the Arab regulator of Sindh, Junayad assaulted the second temple and In 816 CE, the third temple was reconstructed by the Gurjara Pratihara King, Nagabhata-II. In 1025 CE, the third temple was ruined by Mohammad Gajini and the temple was re-built by the King Bhoj of Malwa.

Once again, In 1295 CE, the temple was destroyed by Sultan Alauddin Khilji and it was rebuilt by the Chaudasama king of Saurashtra, Mahipal Dev. In 1378 CE, the temple was smashed by the Sultan of Gujarat – Muzaffar Shah-I.

Finally, In 1780 CE, the temple was again attacked by Mughal sovereign Aurangzeb, and then the temple was re-built by Devi Holkar, besides the statue was re-built by the President of India – Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
