Jatayu was flying above them, and Rama thought of him as a demon. Jatayu then came down and greeted them. He then told them about his relationship with King Dasharatha and promised Rama that he would do his best to protect all of them. When Ravana abducted and took Sita on his vehicle Pushpaka, Jatayu encountered him. He started fighting with him and tried his best to save Sita. Ravana then injures a wing of Jatayu with his arrow but Jatayu still kept fighting. However, eventually, Ravana prevailed as he cut down the other wing of Jatayu. Jatayu then fell on the ground wounded. When Rama saw him, he realized that Jatayu’s end was near. Jatayu told Rama that he tried his best to save Sita but failed. He also told him that Ravana had taken her to the south. Rama decided that Jatayu should get moksha and performed the specific rituals for him.
