The word "numerology" has roots from Greek word logia which imply thoughts and expression. Every letter of an alphabet has a certain numeric value and a unique combination of name and birthday gives a distinct number, which reveals some characteristics of individual and is essential for one’s life.

'The world is built upon the power of numbers' said the great Greek philosopher Pythagoras who strongly believed that the power of numbers results in a magical phenomenon which forms the crust of Numerology and has been practiced till the present day. According to him, the entire cosmic zone is made up of several mathematical patterns and thus everything surrounding us can be reduced to smaller units to determine various characteristics, fortune, compatibilities etc.

Pythagoras is regarded as the Father of Numerology since he reasoned that the musical intervals during his period could be expressed in the ratios between 1, 2, 3 and 4. Also, he portrayed that the number from 1 to 4 equaled the sum of 10 according to the musical connotations and numbers larger than 9 could be reduced to the smaller digits by adding the digits together. He discovered the peculiar combination of music with numbers and hence he came up with his Theory of Pythagorean Numerology.

Throughout the ancient history, it is observed that some values were assigned to each number. Like the ancient Greek used to assign the number with dots or geometrical figures. Odd numbers were considered to be masculine and cannot be parted from each other exhibiting characteristics like assertion, authority and creativity. Even numbers, on the other hand display feminine characteristics like fragile, wholeness and stability. Earlier, both the Greeks and Hebrews considered 10 to be the perfect number. According to Pythagoras, number 10 acquired unique properties consisting of arithmetic and harmonic proportions. So, everyone calculated with 10 and hence reach to digit 1, the number of creation.

The Pythagorean calculations reflect vibrations felt by an individual during a nine year period while he is in womb that is called an Epicycle. The first year contains units of new beginnings. Later, each consequent year brings a different energy which helps in promoting growth. At the end of the Epicycle, the final energy felt contains units of loss thus forcing the removal of that which is no longer needed to continue personal growth. Although there are nine years in an Epicycle with two special numbers that may be used instead and not reduced and these numbers are called Master numbers and they are '11' and '22'. But in special cases they can be reduced to 1+1=2 and 22 can be reduced to 2+2=4. Therefore we have eleven numbers, with nine of them used, during the nine year period. The practical aspects of life include love and relationships, health, work and business, travel and leisure, and the energy of different colors according to the name and birthday of an individual are discovered by reviewing the energy felt throughout the entire nine year Epicycle.
