Chandi Devi Haridwar
Chandi Devi Temple is a holy temple located at a hill top, Neel Parvat near Haridwar. Goddess Chandi is the presiding diety of the temple and believed to be a Siddhh Peeth where desires get fulfilled. Located at 4 km from Haridwar, the main idol in Chandi Devi temple was believed to be established by great saint Adi Shankaracharya in 8th AD. The present structure was constructed by King of Kashmir Suchan Singh. Along with Maya Devi and Mansa Devi, Chandi Devi completes the trio of Siddhpeeth.

The temple also known as Neel Parvat Teertha is one of the Panch Tirth (Five Pilgrimages) located within Haridwar.

After the death of Shiva's first love Sati, Shiva... has created a goddess - Chandika Devi. Since the goddess was very beautiful, demon king Shumbh wished to marry her but was refused. This denial led to an enraged combat. The goddess first killed Chand Munda, the demon's army chief and then were slain the demon kings Shumbh and Nishumbh. Since the battle took place on the Neel Parvat, the temple is a tribute to the whole incident.
Myth and legends
As per mythology, two demons Shumbh - Nishumbh captured the kingdom of Lord Indra. Attracted by the beauty of Goddess Parvati, demon Shumbh wished to marry her. After got refused, Shumbh sends his two chiefs Chand - Mund to fight with Goddess Parvati. The Goddess created Chandika, a powerful goddess to slain demons. Chandika Devi killed Chand Mund and then Shumbh Nishumbh. All battle took place on Neel Parvat, so a Chandi Devi temple was built on that place.

Devotees who visit the Chandi Devi Temple usually take Prasad It is the sacred food that is distributed after an auspicious event or day after offering it to the Gods(offerings) for the Goddess. Prashad bags containing a coconut and flowers sell for around 50 rupees, and it is possible to buy plates of flowers for around 20 rupees. The entry to the temple is also lined with vendors peddling everything from jewelry to music. Navaratri festival is celebrated here.
