About Kalka ji Temple

The KalkaJi temple is also known as the “Manokamna Siddhi Peeth” or the “Jayanti Peetha” Manokamna here means ‘wish’, ‘Siddha’ means fulfillment & ‘Peetha’ means shrine which means it is regarded as the place where devotees are definite to get their hands full up of blissful contentment by taking the blessings of Goddess Kalika Devi. Many devotees visit this temple to meditate and raise their soul to higher level of spiritual progress. It enables them to control anger, hunger, thirst, hatred, ego, concentration, psychic faculties, and desire for sex.

It is situated near Nehru Place, one of the most important corporate hubs of Delhi. The temple is situated at Surya Koot Mountain of the Aravalli ranges thus also giving the goddess the name of Surya Koot Niwasini (the dweller of Surya Koot Mountains).

The temple is very famous among its devotees, and a number of folklores are attached to it as it traces its history, way back to 3000 years. One very famous legend is as follows.

Legend goes as follows:-

Once, the gods were staying near the vicinity of the present day KalkajiDevi temple. They were wrecked upon by the demon “Raktbijasur.”  All Gods then went to Lord BrahmaBrahmaBrahma
According to Hinduism, the whole creation is the work of Trimurti (the Hindu Trinity)...
yearning for their security but Lord Brahma declined to interfere. He referred them to the goddess Parvati, wife of Lord ShivaShivaShiva
Shiva is one of the Supreme Gods of Hindu Trinity that ...

acted as their savior & out of her mouth sprung Goddess Kaushki Devi, who went on to slaughter the two giants , but it so happened, that as their blood fell on earth their arose thousands more of them, and the battle for their destruction was going for long time. Goddess Kaushki Devi got angry and then from her eyebrows goddess Kalidevi appeared. She has got giant size which can easily guess from the fact that ‘her lower lip’ rested on the hills below and the upper lip touched the sky above. She drank the blood of the slaughtered demons as it flowed out of their wounds.  Soon war was over and Goddess obtained a victory over their enemies.

The Goddess KaliKaliKali
There are several traditions of how Kali came into existence...
Devi then decided to stay there forever. She is worshipped as the chief deity of the place. Thus this temple dates back to ‘Satayuga’ or the period of gods.

It has got priceless attendance of gallant faces from Mahabharata such as Lord KrishnaKrishnaKrishna
It is described that there are three aspects of the Supreme that must...
had five Pandava brothers worshipped here before going out for the battle of “the Mahabharata” & again after successfully coming back from it. The present day shrine makes it really hard to believe that this temple is an antique one where Pandavas once worshipped.

The oldest surviving part of the temple was built in the year 1764 A.D when Marathas were in power in 1816 A.D. Mirza Raja Kidar Nath, the Peshkar of Akbar also made some additions to it.

Some devotees believed that temple was reconstructed by Baba Balak NathBalak NathBalak Nath
According to Hindu Mythology, Baba Balak Nath is considered to be the manifestation...
, who had the divine vision of the goddess Kalka devi. She asked him to reconstruct the temple & stay there.  He belonged to Nath sect. One fact known for Nath sect that people belong to this sect usually have their ear pierced.

Initially, the construction of the temple is with the bricks with plaster finish. Later it was revamped with marbles & tiles. The temple’s central chamber is a 12 sided one with a doorway in each side, is paved with marble, & is surrounded by a verandah 8. 9’ & containing 36 exterior doorways. In the midst of this arcade there are statues of two tigers made of sandstone, on a pedestal & on them is the inscription engraved on the marble railings. These inscriptions are in Urdu and believed to be of Fasli era 8821. In between the tigers there is an image of the goddess Kali She is the embodiment of empowerment and a fierce aspect of the Goddess. She is black in her complexion and thus she is named Kali. She is the Goddess of time, power, change and destruction and is majorly worshipped in South India, Bengal and Assamwith a stone depicting trident Goddess (Goddess Kali, Goddess SaraswatiSaraswatiSaraswati
The name Saraswati is a combination of two Sanskrit words...
and Goddess Laxmi) standing before it. There are 12 Shivlinga that are positioned outside the main temple. There is small Doodhiya Bhairava Temple on the first floor of the kalkaji temple. It is dedicated to God Bhairava where milk is offered.
