On seeing this, Malik Kafur was highly impressed and gifted them with their presiding deity of Srirangam but as they say, what you reap is what you sow. Therefore, Malik Kafur’s beautiful daughter Surathani fell head over heels for the Lord Rangantha and followed him to Srirangam. She was enthralled by his beauty and charm, it is said that she prostrated herself to the God in the sanctum and instantly took a heavenly abode. Lord Ranganatha magically killed the young beauty whose painting adorns in the Arjuna Mandap even today and ‘chappathis’ are made for her as a prasadam.
